Fix It Friday

This week's photo is one of my own...and it was chosen for this week's Fix It Friday over at iHeartFaces.

Here is the original:

And here are my fixes...I tried to clone out the background distractions, and I clearly need more practice because I lost the sharpness on the edges of her body. Anyone have any tips on that??

I got here through the I Heart Faces page and have to say that I really love that last one. The crop and the B&W are just perfect! :)

oh and just a thought for that sharpness thing you mentioned (not that I actually know what I'm talking about!) sometimes I will use the magic wand to select, in this case, her body which I don't want to clone out. Then I select the inverse and go to town with the clone stamp everywhere else. Maybe that will help keep edges sharp? :)

They all look great. I like the last one the best. But then again I like black & whites.

Thanks guys...and Rebecca, I used the magic lasso and still have fuzziness. For feathering and edge contrast...what are good settings?

Hmmm... I'm afraid we've reached the extent of my knowledge here. I don't even know if I have ever changed anything like feathering or edge contrast. I even went into photoshop to see what the tool is set on and I couldn't even find it. Proof that I've still got LOTS to learn! Sorry I can't help more!

Thank you so much for letting us have a chance at fixing this adorable picture last week. You have such a cutie! Rebecca's suggestion is definitely a good one. I'd suggest you set the feather very low (1 or 2). The way I do it is to use the clone stamp in short strokes along the arm. (I don't do to much at a time so that I can undo it if I made a mistake without having to start all over.) I then use the healing brush a ways away from the arm to blend it into the cement. Any healing brush along the arm will definitely blur. So, basically, what I find works for me is a combination of the clone stamp and the healing brush...always the clone stamp along edges. Hope that helps. Or, you can save a lot of time by using the great crop you had at the end and not having to clone at all. :)
